BusyBusyBusy

Been extremely busy the past two weeks. It’s led to a site launch, a couple new clients for which I’ll be doing some really fun work and some other things that I don’t really have a definition for yet. Hopefully I can keep up this momentum cause it’s kinda nice having this stability.

Still on a noise punk kick. Latest discoveries are HERPES and HEALTH (but not necessarily in that order, ha!)

Here’s some other stuff that’s fun:
Bad parenting skills
Invisible Violin
Catalog Living

More things that are fun

Half Acre beer

49th Parallel Coffee Roasters

Spencer Product

Kiehl’s Facial Fuel

In no particular order, these things have made me happy recently in one way or another. I encourage you to check them out. Half Acre beer has a store in Chicago where you can buy most excellent beer in good sized bottles or even bigger bottles if you so desire. 49th Parallel Coffee Roasters I just can’t say enough good things about. I’ve just finished up my first order of three bags and recently took delivery on my second three bags. They do not disappoint.

Spencer Product is an old college friend who made it big in the DJ biz. He released a full-length mix CD awhile back that is in constant rotation on my iTunes and released a single in the middle of last year that has some juicy remixes that are fun to blast in the car. Kiehl’s products I discovered at one of their stores out here in Woodfield mall. I’m prone to razor rash and since picking up some of their Facial Fuel wash and scrub, I’ve had very little problem whatsoever. Recommended.

Happy times!

Geeking out

I’m a technology collector. I save nearly every piece of computer equipment I ever buy, whether I can use it or not. It does come in handy from time to time. I’ve reused pieces of old computers to fix new ones and saved a bunch of money in the process. Right now, I may be at my geekiest concerning my setup. Not only do I have one windows server managing my PCs but I’ve converted an old mac to OS X server, which is very cool. It’s got a lot of out of the box features and runs really well on old hardware. I’ve upgraded my network to include a managed switch, which I’ve had lying around since college and just now got around to setting up. I’ve noticed a definite improvement in network throughput since setting that up. I was working with an older Linksys gigabit switch that I hung onto cause it looked nice on top of our server. However, once one of the ports died it was time to move on.

I’ve got plans for some old equipment, too. A lot of it has to do with me setting up a test environment to work with so I’m not stuck with lousy upload times to my production server. I’m gonna need to start making more money though, all these computers on all the time is having a noticeable effect on my electric bill.

Silence

I’ve got things going on right now, but no words for any of it. Little by little I seem to be getting my bearings and will be back in full swing soon, that includes this blog. In the meantime, enjoy this very cute cat.

Overload

Been introspective lately, it sucks to find some old crap in your emotional basement and find that it’s gotten moldy and kinda unpleasant. The last two months seem to have lasted forever, maybe it’s my sleeping schedule but it kinda seems like twice the time. It’s nice that life is moving slowly right now but unfotunately that leads to my worst enemy–complacency. Things seem good, but they aren’t. To be pessimistic, I could eventually be in danger of losing financial stability very quickly and I haven’t come to terms with how real that is. I’ve never dealt with need, it’s just something that I’ve been fortunate enough to have escaped in my life thanks to my parents and my wonderful wife. Yep, I’m spoiled.

Basically, the issue that I’m dealing with now is motivation. I have it handled on a basic level when I’ve got a single task at hand and a finite time to get it done, multi-faceted tasks are bringing me down. There are several things that I’ve been working on with no particular deadline that are getting sidelined becasue I’m not making the time for them and that’s not fair to the projects and the people involved.

My emotional basement is due for a cleaning.

My favorite face

If I can finally motivate myself, I will have completed my first typeface sometime soon. I’ve dabbled with typeface design since college and have pages and pages of sketches, doodles and even a few really half-assed digital files. These are some of the modern faces that inspired me to dabble in typography, they are really beautiful to look at. If you’re in the market for one, pick it up today!
